Even though summer has just started, here in San Antonio It’s already getting pretty warm. By that I mean hot. Hot as in make sure the AC is working and all the shorts are out of storage. Hot as in five minutes outside warrants a trip to the pool. We’re already in the 90′s. That means it’s time for salads, chilled dinners and ice cream, or better yet, milkshakes!
Not just any milkshake will do on days as hot as these. It has to be one that you can’t quite wait to finish. One that you’re willing to get a bit messy with. That shake has to be so thick and rich that it has to forego the straw in favor of a spoon.
Forget wimpy ice creams for shakes here. You go with the good stuff or you go home. In the case of these particular shakes, that ice cream was Häagen-Dazs® Java Chip ice cream. Also coming to the party was a dose of very strong coffee. Trust me on this, if you like coffee, you’re going to be in heaven with this one. Is love too strong a word? No, not in this case.
To be completely honest, this might possibly be the best milkshake I have had in my life. Partially because Häagen-Dazs® makes delightfully good ice cream, but also because the addition of a good, strong coffee takes the flavors completely over the top.
Don’t skimp on the coffee! if you can’t brew a good, strong, rich European coffee at home, go to the local coffee shop and pick some up. This shake screams for high quality coffee. Without that, it just wouldn’t be as good.
Great ice cream + great coffee = You gotta try this, because it’s perfection.
- 3 Tbsp strong coffee, cooled
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup Mocha Java ice cream
Method
Add coffee to bottom of mixing cup or blender, then add ice cream and milk.
Blend together using blender or milkshake attachment of your immersion blender.
Share and enjoy!
What I would have done differently had I thought of it at the time:
I may try this with an even stronger (read, Turkish) coffee in the future, but for now, the whole family loves this just the way it is.

This looks so good I can almost taste it. Almost, but not quite. Guess I’ll have to make it for myself sometime soon :) A love a good shake that also adds a jolt!
